I received my IRIS earlier this week but haven’t had much of a chance to listen to it because of Hurricane Ian that has been ravaging Florida [Sept, 2022]
I’ve been listening to the IRIS/PontusII for several hours now and the improvement in the overall sound was immediately striking and overwhelming! As you know, I was skeptical that a DDC would make much of an improvement in the sound quality, but I don’t think that you will be surprised when I tell you that I have been completely amazed at the transformation in the sound quality and the listening experience that the IRIS has made to the already great PontusII! The improvement is stunning and it is from top to bottom.
The sound is far more dynamic, punchy, effortless, and resolving with no sense of bass or treble, only well-defined music on a sound stage that comes alive right in front of you. The addition of the IRIS DDC showed me just how great the PontusII DAC really is! I suspect that this very significant improvement may be attributed to the use of the I2S input.
Anyone who uses a USB connection and the PontusII DAC should place an order today for an IRIS because they will not be disappointed, especially at the price point of the IRIS. FYI, I’m using a .75m Audioquest Blueberry HDMI cable for the I2S connection.
