CONFIG GUIDE - VENUS DAC

Basic Operation

I2S Pinout Configuration

1. Select I2S Input

2. Press the Mute button once to enter configuration mode

3. Press the Phase button momentarily, 1X 2X 4X will turn on/off in a fixed pattern to denote binary 000-111​

4. Wait for 10s

5. DAC back in operational mode

Suggestion of I2S Matching with the source, i.e. DDC/Transport/Streamer

1. Connect the I2s cable
2. Turn down the volume (minimal)
3. Play a familiar music (PCM first, followed by DSD)
4. Run through the i2s setting of the DAC, 000-111
5. One of the modes should match with the source for both PCM and DSD playback.


It's recommended to go through the Audio Tone Test to make sure the L/R channel, in phase/out of phase correctness.

I2S DSD Channel Swap Configuration


1. Select I2S Input
2. Press the Mute button once to enter configuration mode
3. Toggle the NOS button
- CO1 On = DSD Channel Swap
- CO2 On = Normal
4. Wait for 10s
5. DAC back in operational mode

Filter Selection (Effective in OS Only)

1. Press the Mute button once to enter configuration mode

2. Press the Mode momentarily

  • OPT LED On = Slow Filter

  • OPT LED Off = Sharp Filter

3. Wait for 10s

4. DAC back in operational mode

Dual AES/EBU Input

1. Press the Mute button once to enter configuration mode

2. Press the INPUT+ momentarily, CO1, CO2 LED will turn on/off

  • CO1 On = Dual AES/EBU Input Enabled

  • CO2 Off = Dual AES/EBU Input Disabled

3. Wait for 10s

4. DAC back in operational mode

1. Select the I2S-A input  

2. Press the MUTE button to enter the menu mode, then press the PHASE button to enter I2S pin switching.

The 2X (DATA), 4X (BCK), and 8X (LRCK) lights are off for positive phase;

 the 2X (DATA), 4X (BCK), and 8X (LRCK) lights are on for negative phase  

3. Wait for 10 seconds, and the DAC will return to the operating mode

I2S Pin Configuration

I2S DSD Channel Swap Configuration

1.Select I2S input  
2.Press the sound button once to enter configuration mode  
3.Toggle the NOS button    COAX light represents L/R    AES1 light represents R/L  
4.Wait for 10 seconds  5.DAC returns to operation mode

Filter Function Settings

1.Press the MUTE button to enter menu mode, then press the MODE button
to enter filter function settings  (Press MUTE + MODE buttons) → 8x Light on.
2.In filter function settings, press the MODE button to switch between fast roll-off
and slow roll-off  (Press the MODE button to switch)  1x Light off :Fast roll-off  1x Light on :Slow roll-of

Dual AES Function Settings

1. Press the MUTE button to enter the menu mode, then press the INPUT+ button to access
the Dual AES Function Settings. At this point, the USB light and CLOCK OUT light will turn on.  
2. Press the INPUT+ button again in the Dual AES Function Settings to switch modes:  
- AES2 light on = Dual AES mode;    - OPT light on = Single AES mode;

Clock Output Function Settings

1. Press the MUTE button to enter the menu mode, then press the INPUT- button to access the
Clock Output Function Settings. At this point, no lights will be on when there is no clock output;
when there is a clock output, the CLOCK OUT light and the light corresponding to the clock will turn on.
2. Press INPUT- again in the Clock Output Function Settings:  
- CLOCK OUT light on + COAX light on:    Outputs a word clock with the same sampling rate as the  input signal;    
- CLOCK OUT light on + AES1 light on:     Outputs a word clock;    
- CLOCK OUT light on + AES2 light on:     Outputs half of the master clock;    
- CLOCK OUT light on + OPT light on:       Outputs the master clock.
